Today is the strike against SOPA and PIPA. Many websites are blacking out and offering information about SOPA and PIPA and how to get in touch with your congressmen to tell them how you feel about this legislation. These bills would create Internet censorship laws more intrusive than Syria or China currently employ in their [...]

Continue Reading →It is no secret that we love the neighborhood we work in. We have great food (and beverages) near by. We never have to park farther than a block away. We have the best UPS driver in town.
And the creative community just thrives over here. Everything from fine art, like [...]

Pat and I have long anticipated 2448 E Burnsidethe opening of the new pastry, dessert and coffee shop near SE 24th and E Burnside, and finally today Alder Pastry & Dessert opened its doors. We wasted no time, and scheduled an administrative meeting with Allison for 9 am, when they [...]
Continue Reading →Attempting to herd PR pros is a lot like trying to herd cats. These creative types seem to get distracted easily by shiny objects, balls of yarn and the latest iPhone app. I needed help keeping these folks on track and coordinating all the projects we are working on at once. I found it [...]

Portland is a test market for this new feature. Clive Coffee just got its kit from Google and let [...]
Continue Reading →I don’t own a TV. My closest friend (geographically) owns a TV, but does not have cable. Here’s the problem. We want to watch IFC’s new show based on Portland, Portlandia, that starts airing Fridays (January 21 premiere) at 10:30 pm, so where are we gonna go? Fred Armisen’s (SNL) and Carrie Brownstein’s [...]

Many go to college simply to earn a diploma, which they assume will get them ahead in the job race. Others use college as a place-holder while they try to decide what to do with their lives. Every once in a while, you meet that rarest of individuals, the person who goes to college to learn.
Erin McCormick, AM:PM PR's Human Infrastructure Technician, is just such a person. After 13 years and four colleges, she has way more than enough credits for a degree. For her, that isn't the point. Whether the subject is philosophy, environmental studies, literature, fine art or languages, she's all about learning.
Erin's life choices often seem informed by intellectual curiosity, if not sheer daring. She spent two years as a firefighter in Jefferson, Ore. She enjoys gardening and renovating houses. She likes to cook, play kickball and read about naturopathic medicine among other things. Erin has been accused of being environmentally conscious and - in addition to being a serious composter, recycler and champion of organic and Earth-friendly products - she's the little green voice inside AM:PM PR's collective head.
Perhaps her most marketable attribute is her organizational savvy, which lends itself well to an office full of, to put it nicely, "creative types." She prides herself on being "good at observing the needs of a group and making changes that better serve those needs." From databases to visual aids, inventory to billing, she's the left hemisphere of the brain that some others at AM:PM, who will remain nameless, are sorely lacking.
